Dennis Carroll, photographer and painter, retired in June 2002 after 35 years with the Ridgewood, NJ Public Schools as an art teacher, District Supervisor of Art and Co-Artistic Director of the New Players Theater Company. For many years, Carroll was a member of the Modern Artist Guild, a Bergen County artist group and exhibited with it at colleges, corporate headquarters, galleries and libraries in New Jersey and at its own gallery at the Bergen County Museum. In addition, Carroll’s work has been exhibited at the NJ State Museum in Trenton, the Montclair Art Museum, and the Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University, and he is represented in numerous private collections throughout the country. From 2004-2007 he was co-owner of the APeXgallery in Asbury Park, NJ. His paintings are loosely rendered and highly charged color abstractions while his photographs depict spare, evocative landscapes. Carroll is a recipient of several awards including the Governor’s Award for Art Education, the Art Educators of NJ Distinguished Service Award, and the Ridgewood District’s Ashby Award for Outstanding Teaching. Upon his retirement, the Ridgewood High School Art Gallery was renamed in his honor. He has a studio in Asbury Park where he lives and is active in the community, serving as Vice President of ArtsCAP, Retail Chair of the Chamber of Commerce and on the board of the ReVision Theatre Company. He is a veteran of the US Army, having served in Vietnam in 1968-69.
